Speaker 1:

Welcome in to another Town Talk podcast. It is Chris. Along with Mayor Spanky, we have a special guest with us, kyle from Cajun Coatings, and we are talking about Hot Rods and Heroes 2, which is coming up Saturday at Church Point, central Park, downtown Church Point. It is a car, truck and motorcycle show. It starts at 9, wraps up at 2. We're going to have some great vehicles. We're also going to have some great food. We're going to have some great fun and we hope you can make it out.

Speaker 1:

And just a little background before we get started on how this came about. I had a part in the first car show, truck show, motorcycle show which we had last year in Lafayette, and Kyle and the guys they were looking at hey, maybe we can do this in another spot. I told them about our beautiful new Central Park in Church Point. They came to see it. Mayor Spanky met us and that's how things began here in Church Point for Hot Rods and Heroes 2. So, mayor Spanky, let's start with you. And what does it mean to have any event like this at the new Central Park? Is that something that you envision?

Speaker 2:

That's exactly what the park is there for Before we had car shows and they were popular, but they were at the pavilion. Well, if you, the only reason why you'd be over there is because you knew about it already. It's not a place at the park over there that people are just going to pass. And what's going on today, main Street is, and that's the whole thing with Central Park. We're going to have this event where people are going to be naturally kind of knows, they're like, oh, what's going on over here, yeah, and they're just going to pull in. And that's how these events go, you know, and the Central Park was built for this reason to bring people to the community to have events.

Speaker 2:

I mean, we've had a music festival there. We've done, we're doing this, so we're building. It's not blowing and going yet, but it's sure getting there, you know it goes from. You can go to the show, you can walk down the street to the skate park, you can go to the playground. You know you could do all this stuff and never leave town property. You can go walk down to the pond, you can go to the museum, you can do all kind of good stuff. It's just a. It's a place in the center of the community. That I think can bring a lot of people to say, hey, what's going on here? Let me pull in, and that's the goal.

Speaker 1:

Coming to Kyle. Kyle has his own business. It's called Cajun Codings. Kyle likes to coat people's vehicles and get them protected. That's why it's called Cajun Codings. But you know. Just a side note before we jump in on what's happening. You can check out more about what Kyle does. Go to CajunCodingscom. He can do graphene, ceramic coding, professional detailing. He can get it all done for you. Cajun Codings, k-a-j-u-n-k-o-a-t-i-n-g-s. So there's a plug for you, kyle. But this car, this car show, we're calling it a car show, but last year when we did it, we did the first Hot Rods and Heroes. It was more of a cruise in and we didn't have nor did you guys want to have any awards. It was just a lot of people came, they set up, they parked their vehicle, their clean, nice vehicles, and it gave a chance for everybody to come and check them all out. That's pretty much what we're doing this year, right?

Speaker 3:

Yeah. So I wanted to have a car show this year, because you know you have to pay to register and once we get people to register, you know we could raise more money for the veterans, which is what it's all about. You know, it's the bottom line. I wanted to get more money and less overhead and getting you know those funds to the VFW and the American Legion.

Speaker 1:

This year proceeds are going to the American Legion, post 225 and VFW, post 9903. Both of those are located here in Church Point. It all tides in with Veterans Day and trying to help out veterans. Do you want to go a little bit about you being a veteran, kyle?

Speaker 3:

So enlisted in 2002, right after 9-11 happened, I was still in high school of 17. Two wars later, 20 years later, I'm now retired. I served, you know, 20 years in Louisiana Army National Guard. I made it up to Sergeant, first Class. Now my mission is to help out other veterans. You know that are less fortunate than I am. That's my goal in life now.

Speaker 1:

Last year we did the same thing proceeds went to veterans. This year, same thing proceeds going to veterans. So it's it's for a good cause and we're gonna have food, we're gonna have drinks and one cool thing you know, not only the proceeds go into the VFW and the American Legion, but we're also gonna have them on site. They're gonna be doing a po-boy sale, so they're gonna be barbecuing some po-boys and again, if anybody buys po-boys from them, that money is going to help the VFW, american Legion, and so our proceeds from people registering for the car show. So we're gonna have cars, we're gonna have trucks, we're gonna have motorcycles, pretty much anything Right that wants to come in and and show where we're gonna do it, hoping to get some tractors and you know, whatever, whatever anybody wants to bring they, more than welcome to bring.

Speaker 3:

And boy last year.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, whatever, boy, last year when, when we did it, you know and I know that you are a big part of that car community, kyle, and and I'm just starting to be around it Thanks to you, you know been helping out a little bit. But last year when we did it at Motor City, for me it exceeded my expectations. You know, I really wasn't waiting for that many people to show up and last year it it blew up. Man it was. It was huge. We almost didn't have enough room. Last year. Yeah, you know, there were cars going park in the back in there, a lot of people that showed up just to watch, and I think this year doing it at Central Park and Church Point is gonna open up that area a little bit too.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I wanted some room for expansion because you know I love JP to death. But if we're gonna outgrow his lot, then we got to go somewhere else, you know.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, because he had to move some of his vehicles that were on sale, oh you know, off the side, and then we had to use some of his spots. So I this works out, and JP at Motor City is gonna be a sponsor this year too. Yep, correct, the show will be at Central Park, which is downtown Church Point, and what we're gonna do to set up the vehicles will have them down Rue Irae Leger. We're also gonna have them in front of the Presbyteria Museum and we're also going to have them inside of Central Park. So it's all gonna be consolidated in that area. That's where we're gonna have the food, so the road is gonna be blocked off. I mean, obviously we're gonna have Vehicles who want to be a part of the show. They'll be able to turn in from Main Street onto Rue Irae Leger, but then we're going to close off the street at mayor, help me out here. Is that Roger Street? Is that where we're gonna?

Speaker 2:

close.

Speaker 1:

Okay, I couldn't think about it. So we're gonna close it there and then close it off by the museum and kind of have that whole block For the car show and look anybody's invited. Pre-registration. You can go to listen to the planet calm, and you can. We have a link there on the homepage. You can register how much, kyle, how much is it to register? So?

Speaker 3:

it's a 25 pre-registration you pay the day of, which. So on the 11th, the morning of, just get with the registration tent and go ahead and settle up and if you register a day of, it's $30.

Speaker 1:

Okay, and again all the proceeds go into American Legion, post 225, vfw, post 9903. Also, we got to say thanks to a few people cars and coffee, lafayette. Also thanks to a Katie and a gear heads. Also thanks to Cajun carts they got us a cart so we can ride around. Make sure everybody's good. Also, some of the sponsors motor city, ews, tire sales and service, summit shores, vacation rentals, dead pedal, coffee, hs machine and graphics plus.

Speaker 2:

And also, you know, big thanks to mayor Spanky and I'd like to say thank you for picking church point. Yeah, I didn't laugh yet. Last year Y'all could have picked any town around here to grow this event and it's a humbling feeling that y'all picked Church Point. So I really do appreciate that and this works into our vision and everything that we're trying to do in this town right now. So we really do appreciate that Absolutely.

Speaker 1:

Also a quick thank you to Chief Dale.

Speaker 2:

He made sure that we got what we need and if we need anything we can call him too, and as for that, every time you call him he just goes above and beyond for us all. So I mean, that's how we get everything going around here.

Speaker 1:

And then also Leigh Andrew Degle, who is the commander for American Legion.

Speaker 2:

Emma. Mr Dennis Hart. I know those are the president vice president. American and.

Speaker 1:

VFW. They were excited. Obviously, if you say, hey, man, we'd like to make a donation, obviously you know they're going to get excited and they were kind of like you honor that we thought about them and offer giving them a chance to do some burgers or Pope Boys, and they're going to do that. So I know they're excited about the event too and I believe we're working on getting them there. And then, before we start the show, which we're going to start at nine and it's going to go until two, we're going to present the colors to start out the car show, and they were very excited to do that too. So we have a lot planned.

Speaker 1:

Again, it's hot rods and heroes, part two, number two car truck and motorcycle show. It's happening at Church Point Central Park. It's this Saturday, veterans Day, from nine to two, and we're going to have food. We're going to have some great vehicles. There's no charge to get in. If you don't have a vehicle and you just want to come and see, you just want to walk down, check out all the cool vehicles that we're going to have. Please do so, spread the word, come, grab some lunch and check out all the vehicles and support some Veterans on Veterans Day.
